Jul. 7th, 2025 07:03 pmBasch is a sturdy, barrel-chested warrior in good health and shape but with a myriad of scars and old injuries. He can look older than his 37 years due to prior strain and a serious demeanor. He has a prominent scar over one eyebrow and tends to wear his facial hair cropped short.
Due to CRAU time period, his hair is a good deal longer, and he often wears it half up, sometimes with small braids in it. He is also no longer emaciated from his time in prison, but is also not in peak physical fitness; there's a little softness to him amid the muscle (and it's good for him). His hands are rough and calloused from weapons training and from his affinity for woodworking.
loyal, hard-working, empathetic, patient
shy, literal, disciplined, spotlight-averse
obsessive, martyr, self-denying, gullible
After a year and a half as a guest at the Golden Peacock, he has gotten a taste of exploring his own desires and living without war. However, thrust back into a real world with real problems, he is reeling at figuring out how to operate or orient. He's sweet, but socially awkward, and while he's assertive and commanding in battle, he finds it hard to channel that energy any other time.
By default, he'll jump in to help others, and if he can take a hit so someone else doesn't have to, he will. He wants to help, and he wants to be useful. He's, unfortunately, very prone to trust and being gullible, and once he's loyal to someone, he will support any decision they make.
One of two twin brothers in a noble house in a small city-state, Basch never expected to take over the estate let alone have any real leadership. However, his home was invaded when he was sixteen. Already trained in military skills, he accompanied his father to the frontlines while his brother stayed home with their mother. Basch believed his brother and mother perished, and then defected to Dalmasca to continue the fight after Landis fell. He always said he'd figure out his life once the war was over. That was twenty years ago. He became a beloved and decorated General and the right hand of the king.
Two years ago in canon, three-and-a-half for Basch, he was framed by his twin brother for killing the king and effectively losing the war. His reputation was shattered, destroying morale. He was then throne in a dungeon and tortured by said brother. He did not blame his brother, who holds him responsible for their mother's death. Then, a few months before he was whisked to his first new world, a group of pirates fell into the dungeon. He begged them to let him out so he could help right this wrong, supporting the queen in hiding. While there, he started to harbor shameful feelings that perhaps the pirates were right about things; he was not someone who deserved to walk away from his responsibilities or his actions, even if some part of his heart longed for it.
