[ But the joke strikes Sylvain slightly differently. His fingers falter against Basch's cheek for a moment before he leans in and steals a fierce kiss, fervent and pointed now.

It was something he'd been lectured on far too many times in his life, the carelessness with which he'd treated countless hearts, discarding when they held no real interest for him. His whole reputation had been built around it.

He didn't want Basch to think, not even for a moment, that this was that. ]

No, Basch. There is nothing you could do that would cause that. Not when I'm just as eager for you.

[ A dangerous admission for him. One that skated perilously close to words he'd never uttered in truth. Never meant them. And more, they hinted at the endurance of what he was coming to feel for the other man.

Which, frankly, still scared the shit out of him. Which was why he'd been avoiding looking at it too closely in the first place. ]

[ Basch realizes he's misstepped the moment Sylvain's touch falters, but he doesn't even have time for his brows to knit before Sylvain kisses him fiercely. Instead he catches the other, returning it just as earnestly, holding tight where he can reach him. He doesn't want Sylvain worried that he's hurt Basch.

Even if it touches some deep, old wound he'd thought long passed. It's a strange relief to hear it. And not something he thought Sylvain would want to be pinned down to. So he catches the other's face, pressing their foreheads together. ]

I know [ he says, and he means it. ] You have treated me nothing short of wonderful, and I trust you completely.

[ If only Basch knew how dangerous that was. Trusting him. Sylvain was not a trustworthy person. Especially when it came to matters of intimacy.

But he doesn't say that, even if he feels a pang. Feels a sting of shame that he might be somehow lying to the other man, even if it by omission. Instead, he kisses him again, softer this time. Almost an apology. ]

Honestly? I can't imagine ever growing tired of you. Of this. [ As far as confessions go, this one is soft and uncertain. hesitant. ] That... It's not something I've ever had before.

[ Trust is always dangerous, he'd argue. That's the nature of it. And Sylvain had never abused that. Most of the men Basch had been with had. He'd expected them to even.

He doesn't miss the hesitance in Sylvain, though. He knows him well enough now to read him, and when he needs to be caught for taking an uncertain jump. So Basch keeps his face close, cradling the other steadily, even as Sylvain's admission makes his own insides feel light and squirming all at once. ]

I haven't either, not like this. [ He kisses Sylvain's forehead before pressing their faces together again. It's true. Basch has often fantasized about staying in the throes of infatuation with partners but...it wasn't like this. It didn't feel...real or easy the way they do. That frightens him too. ]

I'm honored it's me. You know that, don't you? I don't need you to know what we're doing or where we're going. I like what we have and how we do it. A lot. That's more than enough.

[ Sylvain has never known where he was going, not really. It had never been his to decide. That, like everything in his life, would have been decided for him, so he'd never let himself worry about it.

Never let himself want anything, either. That had been just as pointless. He'd learned from a very young age that letting himself want something just meant it hurt all the more when it was snatched away, or denied him.

He feels weird, having Basch be the one to comfort him over this, when Basch was apparently the one anticipating being discarded, or grown tired of. He wraps his arms around the other man, drawing him closer, even as he buried his face against his throat. Just holding him. ]

That's probably a good thing, then. Since I've no fucking idea, if I'm honest.

[ Basch could relate to a lot of that, honestly. Even if he isn't always good with words, some part of him understands, even as it hangs unspoken between them.

And he knows how hard it is for Sylvain to acknowledge the things that make him vulnerable. That he's willing to speaks volumes to how much he values Basch. There is no other comfort needed, though he certainly won't protest the way the other nestles into him, clinging to him so sweetly. Basch shifts so they can lie together more comfortably, scooping Sylvain closer to him, gently stroking his back. ]

That suits me just fine [ he rumbles. ] And I'm looking forward to having you closer.

[philancer]

[ A small snort of laughter as he presses a kiss to the curve of Basch's throat. ]

I'm not sure I can get any closer without crawling inside of you. And that... didn't sound quite so weird when it was still in my head.

[ That gets a real laugh from Basch, as much because he's amused as because Sylvain has clearly accepted Basch's comfort. This...all feels good. ]

Where you are is perfect.

[ His smile is pressed against Basch's throat. ]

With you, you mean?

[bardische]

[ He wasn't going to press that point, but when Sylvain asks, the answer comes without hesitation. ]

Yes, as often as you're willing.

[philancer]

[ Another kiss, this one against his collarbone. ]

That might be an awful lot.

That is not the threat you think it is, little fox.

[ He hums against the kisses though, content in his bones. ]
