[ They bathe each other gently, and clean robes are easy enough to find. The baths release them with no trouble this time, and it's oddly quiet on their ride up to the seventh floor. This just feels...normal. Something Basch hasn't gotten a lot of.

He lets them into his suite. The bed is almost comically enormous, as is the raised standing hot spring pool large enough for at least eight people. The view out it is a warm desert city, something Basch has taken comfort in more than one night. Tucked back in the corner is a work bench with wood and tools, and between the areas are a couch and chair he suspects are more for sex than any real use.

It's a strange room, but it's quiet, and it's private. ]

Can I make you tea or get you anything?

[There's still a little tension every time Olivine steps out onto the seventh floor. Still a moment where his eyes drift to a vacant room and away, a press of lips barely noticeable most of the time. Basch's presence is a balm now, allowing him to move past the lingering uncertainties and regrets, and on to the current space.

Which, it turns out, is a surprising amount of it. The sevens rooms and higher have all been so varied compared to the lower ones, a sure sign of the imbalance in rank and treatment. This isn't a bother on its own, and Olivine has no problems with the size of his space, but... it's notable anyway.

He marvels here, in any case, at the size of the bed and hot spring, the artificial sight of a desert against where cold walls surely are. The sight would comfort someone like Dante, he thinks, and has to wonder if it comforts Basch as well.]

Mm, if you're thirsty, I wouldn't mind sharing tea... but I'm mostly alright, I think. Other than a little tiredness from earlier, of course.

[ Mapping the resort is an ongoing project, one that's become fairly slow-going the more Nami explores the place. There are still blanks to fill in, but seeing as how she hasn't gotten there yet, it's left her with an abundance of time to pick up other, alternate projects. Drawing has always been a part of Nami's life, though before the casino, she's never had the space for it. The few times Arlong caught her working on something other than the maps he held her in captivity to draw had come with swift discipline, the results painful enough to put her off attempting again for years. She couldn't take having another sketch of her mother pulled out of her hands again, not when she still had so far to go for her village.

But things are different now, she's free for the first time in eight years, and she's slowly come to enjoy fostering this particular talent, first covertly, sketching those she shares a bed with while they sleep, shoulders, hands, profiles, silhouettes, all drawn swiftly in the dead of night and tucked away protectively in the back of her notebook. It was only after Hua Cheng's message to the network about how he'd like to meet others who enjoyed drawing, that Nami began to embrace the idea of trying her hand at drawing folks who weren't asleep, and Basch, for all his sweet willingness to do things to make her happy, and gorgeously defined lines and angles, made him seem like a good person to ask.

Once in his room, she gets to work, adjusting how the lampshades in his room tilt to give off light, before pulling a chair close to a larger one, and getting it to a spot she thinks will cast interesting shadows on his form after he settles. Stopping there, Nami looks over at Basch, her head tilting gently towards the seat in question. ]

Can you take your shirt off? I want to try drawing your back, so when you sit, sit backwards.

[ She knows he likes being told what to do, which is what's gotten her this far, but for someone like her, who's cards are held close to her chest at all times, Nami feels a bit sheepish asking for this, finding it stupidly ironic how she can boss him around in the throes of passion, but almost wants to squirm where she stands after wanting something a little less frenzied and a little more personal. ]

What are you reading to me today?

[ Basch was decent at making usable maps, and if he had enough time, he could get an alright likeness of a leaf or tree. He had no creative or expressive, ability, though, and greatly admired people who did. He already was impressed by Nami's mapmaking, and it wasn't hard to figure out how private she was. So when she asked to draw him -- in that way that was just shy of a full order -- he was glad to oblige.

He's not expecting how self-conscious he feels when she actually arrives. He's been naked with her countless times, but he knows his scarred skin is a far cry from what art he's seen, and it's hard not to let his nerves eat at him as he tries to stay out of her way, watching her arrange and rearrange.

Orders, at least, are easier. Even in a question. He nods, arms going to pull off whatever frilly shirt the hotel has given him today. He's not quite bold enough to ask if she wants him fully nude. She'll tell him, she's sure. But he does swipe his latest library acquisition from beside the bed even before she asks. He was never going to get through this if he didn't have his own distraction.

He settles into the chair, it oddly easier and harder to be looking away from her. ]

Like this? And I found one about a fearsome pirate who captures a prince for random, but she realizes she's taken his guard captain by mistake.

[ Maybe it's too close to home, or maybe it will be nice. Sometimes they like to reenact the scenes from his reading. This one feels innately doable. ]

[ Considering he had barely any possessions to his name still - just several sets of clothing and a few little mementos here and there - "moving" to his new quarters takes all of one trip up and down the stairs. The box he'd carried his stuff up in is set aside in his own quarters before he steps out into the hall again.

He's been up here plenty of times now to know exactly who will be living next door. And with a mischievous smile on his lips, he moves to knock on the next door down, looking forward to surprising the other man with the news.

Hopefully he'd take it better than Wriothesley had... ]

[ It takes Basch a longer minute to get there, because he’d been lounging in the bath. The only people who really ever knock on his door are hotel staff, Sylvain, and Nami. It doesn’t sound like hotel staff, so he gets himself out quickly. Quickly enough he’s still dripping under the towel hastily tucked around his waist.

It’s Sylvain, and his expression is more mischievous than usual ]

Did I forget an arrangement we’d made, or are you here with a scheme? [ They both know it’s the latter. Basch has never forgotten plans they’ve made. ]

it had always been a possibility -- cloud, for all of his idiocy, understood the risk. but that risk had been parallel to the loss of losing his sword, of losing zack again.

j has had him on guard at the roost, but he's snuck away momentarily, lingering around house finch. he's dressed in a black waist coat and white flannel, an outfit that very stereotypically characterized him as staff, pulling him away from throngs of people. he notices another man -- eyes keen and aware, in pursuit of something, anything.

[ Basch had considered the bet himself. He would have, he thinks, if he hadn't had two concerned faces to answer to if it went wrong. The conversation he'd had a month or so ago still stood; something was afoot. Deeply. But right now, the power was all in the House's hands, or J's, and there was little to gain and much to lose.

But he couldn't fault someone else for having stronger reasons to try. Especially with the promise of weapons from home. He was a solider. He knew how a missing tool could be like a missing limb.

Cloud doesn't surprise him, even if his attention is elsewhere. Basch is too seasoned at what he does, and he's been trying to get a handle on the staff. He wishes Balthier were here -- not the trapped part, but because the pirate is a better read of people and systems than he is. Still. Usually the staff don't speak in anything but pleasantries, and so he suspects this is someone like him, who has wound up on the wrong side of J. The House would never let them work. ]

I am, though it seems I am more patient in my methods. [ There's no venom in it, nor any teasing. The observation of someone used to teaching; nothing more. ]

Beach Prompt: Basch's Backside Bonanza (NSFW)

[ He'd heard there were punishments for failing the scavenger hunt, but he hadn't witnessed it firsthand until he spots Basch across the beach.

Being strapped into what looks like stocks. Fully naked. The sight is enough to have his steps stumbling to a halt, and then redirecting his course until he comes to a stop in front of the trapped man. His expression is caught somewhere between utterly amused and just a little horrified on his lover's behalf.

Less horrified, because he can see the man's body already reacting to this and oh, if that isn't an interesting tidbit.

His thoughts are already spinning. He can work with this. ]

....Do I even want to know?

[ It takes one word, one moment to register the voice, and he's flushing all the way to his navel. He's both relieved this won't be an utter stranger, and also squirming with discomfort. Sylvain may know most of his tastes, but this still feels...private in a way he wasn't necessarily ready to share. ]

You always do, little fox. [ He gets the words out, but fails to keep any bravado in his voice. Which means he just sighs, shaking his head. At least it's the hazy edge of twilight, and he won't burn out here waiting naked for a savior. Or...master. ]

I honestly didn't even know I was signed up for their game, or I may have tried to avoid this.

[ Sylvain had drifted off on one of the lounge chairs under the large umbrellas, unaware that that might not be the best idea. It had looked like a comfy bit of shade, a respite from the bright sunlight, despite there being no actual sun. It had been enough to lull him into a doze, and then a much deeper slumber to the sound of waves.

He's not aware of someone settling down in the chair beside him, or the eyes that watch him for a while with a possessive light in them, until they, too, slide shut and his unseen companion slips into shared sleep.

All he knows is his hazy dreams start to shift. Change. Take a shape of their own and some part of him should find that strange, but he doesn't. It feels like this is supposed to happen, that this is perfectly normal. Even when the world shifts from a fabricated beach into a different scene entirely. Although he can still hear the ocean waves from here. Blinks hazy eyes open to see it, out a large window although it looks... different.

He stares at it, though, mind empty and drifting, even though he should be confused. Some part of him is, but another part of him just accepts that this is reality. Just like he doesn't question the hands on his skin, unfamiliar and harsh as he's stripped of his clothing and pushed to his knees on the rough tiled floor. The clothing he's left with is scant and sheer - barely considered clothing, really, and leaving very almost nothing to the imagination.

His arms are bound behind his back and his legs are spread and also bound in place, leaving him uncomfortably stretched open and exposed. Teetering slightly. Although it doesn't occur to him to resist, to struggle, to pull away. Some part of his mind is shifting with the scenery, the scenario being set up around him. He belongs here now. On his knees. At someone else's whim. His freedom is a thing long gone.

And as if to emphasize that, a thick collar is fitted about his throat and fastened in place, tight and snug, something he feels with every swallow, with every breath. Breaths which come faster now, a hint of panic creeping up over him as his head spins. Confusion and trepidation. Unease... for what he doesn't know, but he can feel whatever - whoever? - it is growing closer. His time is up. ]

[ Basch was normally so careful to respect Sylvain's autonomy, and the skittishness he knew the other could have in being claimed too directly. Maybe especially because those rules were so often bent for Basch; he didn't want to take that vulnerability for granted.

But when he spots the man -- his lover -- napping peacefully in the shade, he can't help the swell of pride and affection. Or the jealousy, louder than it's ever been, that others on this beach have a claim to Sylvain, that they may be the one he wakes up to and goes home with. Not today. Maybe not ever. Maybe he shouldn't share anymore.

He settles beside him in the shade, watching, daydreaming, until sleep take him too.

He doesn't remember the transition to this place, or the beach he's left behind, nor is his mind hazy. He'd come here for a reason, this port that deals in men and secrets and darkness. A rumor had brought him, a series of gambles and payments well-played and carefully executed building up to this.

Sylvain was his. Legally, indefinitely. Soon to be bodily as well. He forces himself to make rounds while he waits for the preparations, having a celebratory drink at the tavern, where men congratulate him on his purchase, and sailors whisper about the why of it. It isn't Basch's typical style, though they know he spent some time in bondage in his younger years. A fantasy? And attraction? An old grudge?

All of them.

He sees to the innkeeper then, and his men. He is not to be disturbed until the following evening, and he keeps only his best servants on for needs like food and errands. And sends one out to make purchases. Outfits, to dress the new pet in. It will take time to break him in, and he will not leave Basch's side until he is good and trained.

With enough time passed, he finally ascends to the airy third floor residence. His own clothing has been selected for power, contrast: ceremonial regalia, a flaring cloak, belts and jewelry, and of course loudly clicking heels. His chest, though, is bare near to the navel.

He's sure Sylvain hears him before he arrives. Still, he takes his time opening the door, letting his eyes sweep over his prize as he enters.

The drug is unfortunate, but necessary. It eased his own time, so there is some little kindness in it. But he also doesn't want his toy broken today, not that way anyway. Otherwise, the man is beautiful, stubborn and defiant even like this. What little clothing he wears is more scandalous than if he'd been naked. ]

I see you've settled in nicely already.

[ He closes the door behind him, making it clear he is locking the heavy wooden door. ]

Morning After Talks

[ Sylvain is not - has never been, likely never will be - a morning person. So it’s not unusual to find him lazing in bed as long as possible, refusing to get up - or sometimes even wake up - without a great deal of resistance. Sometimes purely out of sheer stubbornness. Or spite! That works, too.

This morning is not one of those times, however. He’s awake in the early hours of the morning, despite the long, eventful day before and despite the fact that he’s cozily cuddled up in Basch’s bed, stretched out comfortably with his lover currently sound asleep on his chest.

His fingers absently trace along the line of the man’s shoulder and arm where it’s wrapped around his waist, his other arm propped beneath his head like a pillow as he stares at the ceiling. Well. Not really at the ceiling. He’s too lost in thought to be staring at anything, really. ]

[ Basch, on the other hand, is very much a morning person. Maybe naturally, maybe years of military life just drilled it into him. It's been good for him that Sylvain forces him to laze and doze.

So he isn't up quite as early as the other, especially not with how tired he was, both physically and mentally, but when he does stir to shift, Sylvain's touch pulls him to awareness. It's not disruptive itself, but his mind knows a break in pattern, even half-asleep. ]

Alright, little fox?

[ It's murmured reactively, but as the words register to his own ears, he feels his stomach drop. This...is exactly what he'd been worried about. He doesn't want to think about it, doesn't want to resign himself to it, but he can already feel himself starting to detach, trying to tuck his emotions where they won't cause problems in whatever conversation is coming.

He can't be disappointed. Or surprised. This already lasted so much longer than he ever dreamed. ]

For Sylvain: Professor Part 3

[ This arrangement turned out to be just as much of a tease for Basch as he suspected it was for Sylvain. Seeing the man in class, in the halls, meeting gazes, knowing what was promised but also knowing he could have very little until then. He'd foolishly thought it might cool some of his attraction, but it had the opposite effect, his private thoughts drifting more and more not just to what they'd done, but to what the other might do when their deal was complete.

When Sylvain was, technically, no longer his student either. At least for now.

Not that Sylvain hadn't found ways to press the rules, to keep teasing and fanning the mutual attraction. But neither had pushed the rules Basch laid down, and the next few weeks crept by at a glacial pace.

Finally, Basch was dismissing the previous student -- good, smart girl -- from his office, walking her out. He'd scheduled Sylvain last, which had been wise on some fronts, but not on how increasingly distracted he'd become. Now his heart leaps, pulse pounding in his ears, as he calls the man into his office.

It's only a lifetime of being stoic that keeps his face even as he gestures to the open chair and takes his own seat, flipping through a near-empty file for Sylvain's exam. ]

[ Sylvain wouldn't admit to having been pacing and fidgeting out in the hall while waiting for Basch's office to clear. He's not used to getting called down to the Professor's office as long as he kept his grades average and exactly in the middle. To get called here now was... nervewracking.

And the Looks he was getting from other nearby professors was nerve-wracking all on its own. He didn't like having this much of this kind of attention on him.

So he's more than grateful to slink into Basch's office, slumping into the chair before his desk with a grimace at that succinct greeting. He had tried, and he thought he hadn't done too bad? Just his luck, it was apparently terrible enough to get him called here for a meeting instead.

He knew he should have just kept doing what he always did instead. ]

Ugh. Was it really that bad? I told you this was a bad idea.

[ at some point during the winter respite at the resort, after the sleeping beauty debacle, eiden will deliver a package to basch's room, wrapped in shiny tan paper with a neatly tied gold ribbon.

laid inside is handsome suede jacket that is lined with very warm material, built with a high collar and folded cuffs. there are signs that it is handmade with care, from the measurements carefully made to fit basch's particular frame itself. the lining is quilted in a deep blue fabric and very soft. in among the blue lining there are small embroidery animals done here and there, almost like they're meant to be discovered by chance. some are hidden under the cuffs (a few rabbits cuddling), some circling the inner neckline in soft thread (some song birds in flight together).

when zipped up, the jacket itself is comfortable, and with a good weight to it, meant to act like an embrace, perhaps.

(after giving this to him, he'd like to offer to take him to dinner, a date - no snowstorms, no weird cabins, no forced advertisements shoving them together. while maybe the cabin hadn't been all that bad, getting to relax, truly for once with warm dinner and some company, is something he'd like to give to him so yes the date is a present too.) ]

[ It's the most beautiful garment Basch has ever seen. He almost feels like it's too special to wear. Instead, Eiden will see him in it regularly during the winter season. It is indeed like an embrace, moreso because he is truly unused to being thought of and seen so thoroughly.

And he'll send a package back, in a hand-carved wooden box with a large cat motif on it. Inside is a velvety drawstring bag full of hand-carved wooden buttons in various designs -- flowers, squares, textured circles, tear drops.

A handwritten card in a steady if not very flowery hand says For your beautiful projects, however you see fit. I sincerely look forward to our quiet dinner. ]

[ Whether he was there and the gift giver ran away the moment they knocked, or she missed him completely, there's no one there at the door when he opens it. There is however a small, simple but no less finely wrapped present.

When he opens it he'll find a burnished metal cuff nestled in a velvet. At a glance it looks like a smooth surface but upon closer inspection he'll discover subtle waves on it akin to waves.

A short note accompanies the gift. ]

I'm told people deliver gifts to people they care about over the holidays. Happy holidays, Basch. I hope it's filled with all the warmth that you deserve.

Action @ the Red Cardinal

[ When Basch suggested the Red Cardinal as a place for the two of them to meet, Kaveh couldn't have been more relieved. Since having been ranked up to a royal, he's found the bar/restaurant to be one of the most comfortable places for him to go within the resort, with its low-key nature allowing him a modicum more privacy than other places.

To support that need for privacy, Kaveh's dress is a little lower-key than normal, a white shirt and black slacks with a matching cap pulled down over his bangs. He's tucked into a booth with a red wine in hand, sipping from it while he waits for Basch to arrive. (Slow sips. He's not here to get drunk tonight.)

When he does see the other man, he smiles, raises his hand in greeting as he waits for him to make it across to the booth he's occupied for them. ]

Hey, [ he says, and he stands up to press a warm kiss to the other's cheek. ] I'm glad you could come.

[ He's a little surprised to see Kaveh beat him, considering Basch himself is a little early. It just makes him smile, waving at the other man before he clears the space to the booth.

Surprised again at the sweet warmth of the greeting. It's not customary where he's from, but it feels natural with Kaveh. ]

Of course [ Basch agrees, settling into his side of the table. ] In all honesty, I could use this too, so thank you for agreeing. [ He thankfully doesn't feel awkward or like he has to address their less than wonderful text exchange. They're both here. That was the whole point. ]
